Something is happening in the minds of people today and it’s scaring me. I’m not talking about people who are mentally challenged or disturbed, or even the criminal minded. I’m talking about brothers and sisters in Christ.
This is not a Bible study or a rant, this is me getting personal – trying to see if others have observed the same thing. I’m wondering if this is something new or has it always been this way and I’ve just been oblivious to it. I’ll describe overall what I’m talking about and then I’ll give examples.
They only way I can describe this is that their minds are foggy, they don’t understand what they just read, and/or flat-out deny what they just read. I’m not talking about people who have trouble interpreting what they read in the Bible – I’m talking about reading something plainly, then denying it.
Ex: I read a chapter to someone over the phone about salvation. (this was a brother who has been a Christian for most of his life – at least 40 yrs.) I read it in context, then he says it has nothing to do with salvation. Then I told him to read that particular verse, he did and still said it had nothing to do with salvation. I asked him what he thought it meant and he didn’t have an answer for me. (I wish I could remember exactly where the verses were but I can’t) How can a person utter the words themselves, then deny what they just read?
The first thing I think of when someone denies the plainly written text is that they love that particular sin, or maybe they’ve been brought up with that belief, basically I would chalk it up to a heart issue – that person loves “X”. But that doesn’t apply in this case. He’s not denying salvation – he’s just denying that he read it and doesn’t understand what IT is saying or me. I could give him the benefit of the doubt and say it’s alzheimers I guess.
I understand that people disagree on Biblical topics but the reasons why is what startles me. Their thought process is strange, their reasoning. These subjects are too numerous to name so I’ll just write a list – some are non-debatable (something every Christian should believe and follow) and some border, no, ARE ridiculous!
It’s ok if female Christians go to church scantily clad – Jesus looks at their hearts and if others are looking elsewhere, then that’s their problem.
God created a complete, perfect world in Gen.1:2, but then destroyed it (along with Satan and sin) before Gen. 1:2.
Our sinning causes Satan to grow in stature and give him more power.
Pre-marital sex is ok as long as you love the person – “fornication” applies to people who are not in love.
It’s better to have sex (if you are a Christian) with a prostitute because then you won’t be damaging them spiritually. (‘they’re already going to hell’ is their reasoning)
I’ve debated these topics in strenuous detail with these people and their defense is mind boggling. I guess you really can’t understand what I’m talking about unless you’ve seen the discussions. All I can say is that these are the same people who talk about how ‘they’re only seeking the truth’, ‘we believe the Bible only’, and ‘we love Jesus more than anything’. Yet their minds are foggy and they cannot understand or reason. The first example I gave is the one that really scared me though. This person denied what he just read.
Is there a ‘separation’ of sorts going on now? Are the sheep and goats sort of doing a preliminary separation, thus separating themselves – waiting for Jesus to be the final Judge in the process? The Bible doesn’t say anything about this self-separation (that I can recall) yet I’m seeing them divide. I’m not talking about churches who divide over doctrine – this is different. I’m talking about minds being warped. Foggy/murky vs. clarity.
Has anyone else experienced this?
