Why did Jesus have to die?
To give us victory over sin and over Satan. Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
His death was the only thing that would atone for sins. Isaiah 53
His suffering and death were essential. Matt 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
In order to be the ransom for us. Matt 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
For remission of sins. Matt 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
To fulfill the Scriptures Matt 26:52-54 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
53Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
To take away the sins of the world. John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Because all have sinned. Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
This was the only way that God could be both just and the Justifier. Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Without shedding of blood, there is no remission. Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
This is the ultimate expression of God’s love for us in sending His Son Jesus to pay the penalty for us. He didn’t have to do this but in His love and mercy, He did. Praise Jesus!!!
